Join us for our FREE Christmas outdoor singalong carols event! Family fun for everyone! Take part in our lantern procession and have a singalong to Christmas Carols played by Ashbourne Town Band, with singing led by Courtney May Trusswell, winner of Mickleover's Got Talent.
The event is celebrating the life of much loved school boy Samuel Liew, from Mickleover who passed away this year aged 5 years old. It is the first event organised by Sam's Superheroes; a charity founded in memory of Sam. Thank you to Our Mickleover, Mickleover Councilors and Derby City outdoor events team for their help and support in hosting this event.
Come and have some family Christmas fun which will include:
* Ashbourne Town Brass Band,
* The fabulous Courtney May Trusswell, from Mickleover's Got Talent, leading the singing,
* Reverend Gill, from Mickleover Methodist will be narrating the Christmas story in between carols, for the children,
* Lantern procession starting from Holly Rd carpark, which will follow the route onto Vicarage Rd down to Vicarage Road Recreation Ground,
* From 5pm there will be a refreshment stall selling hot drinks and cakes, craft stall, RAFFLE and children's LUCKY DIP,
* Plus LOTS MORE, and we may even get a visit from someone special to lead our procession, fingers crossed!
We recommend you come early, (from 5pm), so you have time to visit our stalls as they will get busy. There will also be maximum numbers we can allow to this event.
Thank you to Our Mickleover, Mickleover Councilors and Derby City outdoor events team for their help and support in hosting this event.
There is LIMITED CAR PARKING, only those with a blue disability badge will be able to park on the car park next to the recreation ground. There will be no entry to the carpark during the procession, between approx. 5.30pm to 6pm. Everyone is encouraged to WALK to the event where possible, or park on other available car parks around Mickleover. Please AVOID parking on Vicarage Road.
Approximate timings for the event are below, these will be subject to change, so please CHECK ON THE DAY of the event for confirmed timings. As it is an outdoor concert, we are reliant on the weather. Please come suitably dressed.
* From 5pm - hot drinks, cake, craft stall, RAFFLE and children's LUCKY DIP will be available in the Pavilion at Vicarage Park. These will be open until the end of the concert.
* 5.30pm - Children's lantern procession will leave the car park next to the library, and walk down Vicarage Road to the Recreation Ground.
* 6pm - 6.15pm (approx) - Carol concert will start
* 7pm - 7.15pm (approx) - Carol concert will end with a short, low noise animal friendly fire work display.
The concert and fireworks will take place on the grass directly behind the Pavilion. A lantern procession will take place prior to the concert starting, which will leave from the carpark at Holly Rd next to the library. Please bring your own lanterns. A road closure will be in operation for this.
Everyone is encouraged to wear Christmas hats, or outfits!
The ANIMAL FRIENDLY fireworks are a short LOW NOISE display. They have been organised by a professional fireworks company, Celestial Fireworks. The noise of the fireworks is equivalent to that of a passing car. The emphasis is on a colourful, superhero display rather than noise.
We look forward to seeing lots of our lovely Sam's Superheroes supporters and friends to celebrate Sam's life and enjoy some festive carols and fun!
